Assessment of the Efficiency of Wastewater Treatment Plant in Oil and Gas Firm in Eleme Rivers State, Nigeria

The study aimed to determine the efficiency of a wastewater treatment plant and quality effluent discharged by into receiving water body (Okochiri River) in Eleme, Rivers State. lasted for four months. Wastewater samples were collected at various stages unit tested major parameter such as Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD), oil/grease, phenol, Dissolved (DO), Total Suspended Solids (TSS), sulphide. In general, composite system (comprising dissolve air floatation, Rotary Bio-Disk, sedimentation unit) was effective pollutant removal, except sulphide, which had negative (-238%). line with Pearson Correlation, there are strong positive relationships between several parameters, pH Sulphide (0.93), Phenol Oil/grease (1.00), Phosphate (0.91). Principal Component Analysis yielded principal components (PC1-4): PC1 parameters highest loadings on first factor (D1) sulphates phenols, whereas Chemical second (D2). oxygen most strongly associated third (D3), loading fourth (D4). It is recommended that system's overall be improved consistently meet regulatory limits control. Recommendations improving include (1) ensuring regular maintenance individual units plant; (2) maintaining optimal operating conditions rotary bio-disk unit.
